The Boeing Stearman was a military trainer built during the 1930s and 1940s after WW2 the thousands of surplus aircraft were sold to the civil market. It was powered by a radial Continental motor, the unique sound of the Stearman was due to the propeller tips reaching supersonic speeds at normal operating speeds.
